Leo, Korean War Veteran and VCP Resident

Veterans Community Project (VCP) was formed in 2016 by a group of Kansas City combat veterans determined to end veteran homelessness. Together, they developed a tiny home prototype intentionally designed to maximize comfort and functionality, incorporating evidenced-based, PTSD-informed design decisions.

Each VCP tiny home is fully furnished; featuring a full kitchen, private bathroom, two weeks of groceries, and all other essentials to make the house feel like home.

Completed in 2019, their flagship village of 49 tiny homes broke ground in 2017 and began housing Veterans in 2018. Today, their signature 240 square foot tiny home model has demonstrated an 85% permanent housing transition success rate with the average length of stay being 335 days. Their operation has since scaled to expand access to this proven tiny home model at five additional locations across the United States including Saint Louis, Sioux Falls, Milwaukee, Longmont, CO and Glendale, AZ.

Tiny Homes, Big Impact.

One in ten Veterans report experiencing homelessness at some point in their adult lives. VCP not only serves to provide housing to unhoused Veterans, they offer life-changing assistance to those who are at-risk through their Outreach Center; a walk-in friendly space for essential services like emergency assistance, housing support, food packs, hygiene kits, and more. At their Village Center, they offer training and education opportunities, with a support network for money management, health, and well-being.

To all veterans: our sincerest Thank You. Today and every day we honor your courage and sacrifice.
